Flames pitcher throws a no hitter in 3rd place finish

 

Flames of Nebraska 18’s pitcher Kristi Buhrman that played her high school ball for Kearney High and just completed pitching her first year of college ball for York College threw a no hit shut out Saturday at the Hastings Bill Smith Complex in the Lincoln Magic hosted tournament downing  Seward Fastmart 2-0 in the third game of the day that Buhrman threw. Buhrman struck out 8, 0 walks, 0 hits, 0 runs, behind a solid defense. The hitting was led this game by Lynsey Crosby, Kristen Livingston, Vanessa Deis, and Julie Thome each had a single.

 

In the previous two games of the day the Flames drop a heart breaker to Lincoln Magic 6-7 losing a 4-0 lead, then a 6-4 lead in the last inning. Buhrman gets the loss on the mound as she struck out 2, walked 3, give up 8 hits, 6 runs, 4 earned. Julie Thome caught all 3 games on Saturday. The Flames Hitters were lead by Hannah Melvin with 2 singles and a double, Deis had a single and a double,  Crosby had 2 singles, Alisha Horsky had a double, and Chelsie Eckhardt, Livingston, and Thome each had singles.

 

Flames win the opener of the tournament over Lincoln Blazers in the first inning by batting around and scoring 6 along with there very aggressive base running with a final score 9-0. Buhrman led the hitting with a double and a single, Livingston, Melvin, Laura Kjar, each had singles. Buhrman pitched the first 3 innings striking out 4, giving up 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, Deis came in relief and gets the save striking out one and giving up 0 hits, 0 runs, and 1 walk.

 

On Sunday the second Flames earned a second seed by, so first game went 0-0 before giving up 3 runs in the tie breaker before losing 1-3. Pitcher Buhrman took a line drive in her pitching hand but did manage to finish the game. Buhrman stuck out 5, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk. Thome got the only hit for the Flames.

 

In the consolation game put the Flames against the Lincoln Blazer in a rematch from the first game of the tournament.  The Blazer came ready to play ball this game there were not about to let the Flames blow them out twice in the same tournament. Flames started the young Lynsey Crosby on the mound who completed 3 1/3 innings before be relieved by Alisha Horsky, then Kristi Buhrman came in to get the last two outs of the Game. The catching duties were handled by Hayley Zlomke and Laura Kjar. Crosby gave 1 run on 0 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7, while Horsky gave up 1 run on 0 hits, 4 walks and struck on 1, while Buhrman gave up 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and struck out 1.

 

Flames 16’s are in action Tuesday night at 7:30 PM in a Kearney League game against the Kearney Chargers. Then not again until the Lincoln League with the 18’s on Wed May 22 and the 16’s on Thursday May 23 both teams playing double headers starting at 6:15 PM.
